Move, Feel and Be Well with FranklyFitness
As Garance Dore describes it, I would like to be Perfectista on my wedding day – 11.11.11. It isn’t so much about looking the best in pictures (but it is a little about that too…), but more about my wanting to be the PERSON I am always meaning to be. The girl I want both in the pictures and in my new marriage, not only has whiter teeth and fits in her skinny jeans, but she’s also less stressed, more present and generally pulled together (Abigail is doubled over laughing somewhere seeing as she was recently angry at me for being “too” pulled together.)
To give you a general idea, I want to never be caught dead with my new ring and without a manicure, while I am in a meeting that I had enough time to prep for, before I went to the gym (where I didn’t forget socks, headphones, deodorant, whatever else), wrote my blog and picked up the wine for Friday night’s dinner party sometime before guests started arriving. But alas, you have to start somewhere…so I started with FranklyFitness.
Meet Frank Baptiste (brace yourselves girls), the seriously handsome Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, who not only makes you want to be in better shape (if you would like to date a guy even HALF as cute as Frank, you will need to secure that skinny ass you always imagine yourself having), but he will also get you there! I met Frank through my girlfriend Jenny, who worked out with him during her pre-wedding regimen. FYI – Jenny looks amazing! Over lunch one day, I said, “Girl, I need to do whatever you are doing – asap!” So she set me up with Frank.
Just like The Bumby’s give you an honest appraisal of your style, Frank gives you an honest assessment of your body (BRUTAL.) This is not like an “honest assessment” from your mother, You need ice cream like you need an other hole in your head.”, It’s more like ”You need a bit of work, you are de-conditioned and you need to get more sleep.” but also very encouraging, ”you are much stronger than you think, we can totally do this.” My favorite thing that Frank said in our first meeting during his assessment was, “for the next four months, you’re going to baby your body.” Meaning, we are going to give your body everything it needs – sleep, exercise, nutrients, and de-stressing activities like yoga. For busy girls like us, taking care of yourself is like a joke. Sleep? Ha! 80+ hour work weeks put a real wrench in that plan. Nutrients are present in coffee right? Stress relieving activities? Sure…I’ll get to it in my spare time. But Frank laid it all out for me in a spreadsheet, and I thought FINALLY a language I speak!
Rule # 1 on Frank’s list is to have SMART goals.
S – Specific – Lose 20-25 pounds
M – Measurable – Fit into my skinny jeans
A – Attainable – Anything is possible!
R – Realistic – Being back to my weight at 17 is realistic right?
T – Time Bound – D-Day is 11.11.11!
The Steps:
So after my wake up call with Frank, I had my work cut out for me. So I began the same way I start anything…with a little shopping trip. Hey, if I am going to get my ass kicked on a daily basis, I better look good doing it!

The Steps:
- NUTRIENT TIMING – Eat a meal every 3-4 hours during the day (no excuses!) and eat the first meal within an hour of walking.
- SLEEP – Frank set a goal for me to get 7-8 hours of sleep every night (a huge increase from my usual 4!
- EXERCISE – This sounds totally obvious except I have been a yoyo dieter and neverhave time to work out an thus – I never lose weight no matter how much salad I am consuming. Frank started me out slow at 2x weekly building up to six weeks.
